Vietnam is one of the most rapidly developing economies in the world. In fact, as manufacturing costs and wages have risen in China, many producers see Vietnam as a better locale for outsourcing factories. Vietnam, once a fully centralized economy, opened in 1986 with the enactment of the historic Doi Moi (“renovation”) reforms. These new policies introduced market forces to the Vietnamese economy and opened the door to private enterprise and foreign investment. In recent years, Vietnam has achieved a bilateral trade agreement with the US (2000) and ascension to the WTO (2006). Global Travel Seminars can focus on Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City and feature rich cultural experiences including explorations of the Mekong River Delta, tours of rice farms.
